OSGILIATH (Lord Of The Rings) – Voted Best Display

Using the Lord of the Rings rules from Games Workshop, John Shaw, Jeremy Shannon and the Lord of the Rings team showed off their prize winning display to bring these scenes to life.

Figures were mainly from the collections of John Shaw and Jeremy Shannon plus some kindly lent by Peter Jenkins and other Lord of the Rings players.

The terrain is modular and will be used in the Osgiliath campaign that is planned for the club later this year.

WARHAMMER FANTASY – Voted 2nd Best Display

The deep forest has been home to the wood elves almost since time began. The giant trees are their homes and fortresses. They have been witness to many battles with their own kin, Dwarves, Men, Orcs and even Giants.

But now has come an insidious foe; warping not only themselves but the forest they live in. The Wood Elves maintain magical lay lines to keep the insidious chaos taint at bay. Can the Wood Elves protect the rune stones that maintain the lay lines?

This may be the last battle between the Wood Elves and their corrupted chaotic brethren the Dark Elves for control of the old forest.

Warhammer Fantasy Battles is a popular rule set for Fantasy 28mm wargaming by Games Workshop; now in its 8th edition and celebrating over 30 years. Craig Wyton put together this magnificent display.

EPIC: ARMAGEDDON

Epic: Armageddon is set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. It depicts battles between the various races of this universe using small scale miniatures (6mm high).

Battles can be fought using larger forces than is possible with the 28mm figures used in Warhammer 40K. Multiple troops and companies of tanks are regularly used. A large battle means that giant war engines and Titans can be used.

Painting is easy as there is less detail on each model than in the larger scale. However, as can be seen from the photos, the models can look very impressive. Armies can be put together quickly.

The Epic group regularly plays at the club. They use Space Marine, Imperial Guard, Eldar, Chaos Space Marine and Space Ork armies. Each army is unique and requires different playing styles to be successful.

The players are involved throughout the game as each side alternates doing something with one of their formations. You can choose to move, shoot, rally or a combination of these.

Epic: Armageddon was put on by Richard Bradley and Richard Gorringe with some additional figures supplied by Tom Brake.

IT SEEMED LIKE A GOOD IDEA AT THE TIME – World War 2

World War 2. Eastern Front. Their combined aim was to complete the encirclement of the German troops.

The Germans were in a race against time to extricate the remnants of two army groups from the area known as the pocket. The display represent battles fought between units of the 90th US Infantry Division and those of the German 2nd SS Panzer and 10th Panzer Divisions.
The Germans were desperately trying to keep the pocket open so more of their comrades could escape the Allied encirclement while the Americans attempt to close it.

Steve White, Chris Bridgland, Paul and Alan fought this interesting scenario in 1/72nd scale. Unfortunately for the Germans, the convoy was all but destroyed as it desperately raced down the road.

An interesting diversion during the day was the larger scale radio control Tiger tank.
